Voted for by the public, with over a quarter of a million votes received, the Hotlist recognises the very best in cinematic talent right now, and in the future.
The Total Film Hotlist claims to be the only award to take the temperature of cinema right now, reflecting not only what moviegoers enjoyed in 2010 but also what they’re looking forward to in 2011.
Hence a range of categories such as Hottest Film (won by Oscar contender The Social Network), Hottest Ticket (the most anticipated film of 2011 – won by the final instalment of the Harry Potter series) and Hottest Property (the most anticipated film yet to start shooting – won by Arrested Development: The Movie).
On hearing that the final Harry Potter was the most anticipated film of 2011, star Emma Watson commented: “I think I can speak for everyone involved when I say we are truly thrilled to receive this award. It’s been a long journey and we are all looking forward to seeing how it ends. I’ve spent half my life with Harry Potter, so being on the set for the final day was an emotional experience. My abiding memory has to be the very last day of filming – it finally hit us all, and Dan, Rupert and I were in bits. Even producer David Heyman cried! Still, now it’s all over I was able to get a tan and cut my hair!”
Other Hotlist winners include British star Gemma Arterton who picked up the award for Hottest Actress following a packed year that saw her star in Clash of the Titans, Prince Of Persia, Tamara Drewe and The Disappearance of Alice Creed.
The new Spider-Man Andrew Garfield won the Hottest Actor award, a reflection of the levels of excitement already being generated for the newest incarnation of the superhero series and Garfield’s sterling work this year in such films as The Social Network and Never Let Me Go.
“This award is a massive honour,” said Garfield, “and very flattering. I feel very very lucky to have worked with some wonderful, creative people this year. And I’m now working hard to make sure I don’t mess up Spider-Man!”
Also on the winners list were the controversial Four Lions director (and former Brass Eye creator) Chris Morris, and Tron:Legacy and True Grit star Jeff Bridges, who won the ‘Hotlist Icon’ award.
