Edinburgh University Press announces new senior role for Sarah McDonald.

EUP’s Sarah McDonald promoted
Sarah McDonald: “I am delighted with this opportunity to align our book and journal publishing.”

Edinburgh University Press (EUP) has announced that Sarah McDonald, currently head of journals at EUP, has been promoted into a newly-created role, head of publishing, covering the editorial function across books and journals. This reflects other head of department roles in marketing, sales, production, and finance and operations at EUP, all of which have responsibility for both books and journals, added the publisher. EUP says it allows them to align editorial strategy across the two parts of the business, a key objective of its current five-year Strategic Plan.

The opportunity to restructure follows news that Tom Dark, currently head of editorial (books) at EUP, will be leaving the company in October to develop his career in non-fiction trade publishing.

Nicola Ramsey, CEO, said: Sarah is uniquely placed to be promoted into this role, given her extensive experience across books and journals publishing at EUP. Prior to becoming Head of Journals, Sarah was the Commissioning Editor for our Linguistics and Film Studies lists for nine years. Sarah has also been working closely with Tom over the last two years on key editorial objectives within our Strategic Plan.”

Sarah McDonald said: “I am delighted with this opportunity to align our book and journal publishing. We have a wonderful community of authors and readers who contribute to and engage with our content, regardless of format, and combining our editorial team will help to strengthen the shared strategic objectives across our publishing programme as a whole.”

Jonathan Glasspool, chair of EUP, said: “We welcome Sarah to her new role in charge of both books and journals. Sarah is an exemplary publisher and we welcome the sharp focus she will bring to both programmes.”
