Future to run the London Music Show

Future has signed a new deal with the Music Industries Association (MIA) to run the popular London Music Show.

With over 22,000 visitors attending in 2009 – the London Music Show (formally the London International Music Show) is the UK’s biggest music making event and takes place from 8th – 10th October 2010 at the Excel Arena.  The London Music show incorporates Drummer Live, London Guitar Show and Sound Recording Technology Show.  With trade welcome all three days, the event celebrates all aspects of music, and caters for thousands of consumers with live music, demonstrations, signings, and the chance to test out and purchase the latest equipment and gear.

The 2010 show will be run and organised by Future, one of the largest publishers of guitar magazines in the world, and the biggest music-making publisher in both the US and the UK. The music-making portfolio includes MusicRadar.com, Guitarist, Total Guitar, Guitar Techniques, Rhythm, Future Music, Computer Music; and events such as ‘Guitarist Presents’ and Producer Sessions Live.

Future’s involvement in the London Music Show will build upon the event to create a show which celebrates all aspects of music and inspires people to want to learn and play musical instruments. The aim is to encourage a broader audience from the existing core market, targeting lapsed musicians as well as a new audience of beginners, and by developing links in education thereby encouraging would-be musicians to get involved, with a special education day on Friday 8th.

Key areas of development include features which will encourage visitors to interact with and play instruments; integration of the retail area into the main event and full use of the live music hall where visitors can come and see artists and their heroes perform.

Mia Walter, Publishing Director for Future’s Music-Making portfolio said: “We are very excited about this partnership with the MIA to run the London Music Show, and our objective is to invest into this event for long term growth. It fits perfectly with our strategy of multiplatform products to compliment our market-leading online and print portfolio, with the addition of our music-listening brands Classic Rock and Metal Hammer getting behind the show.

“There is huge potential for the London Music Show to reach a wider audience, whilst increasing its links with education by encouraging beginners to start playing musical instruments. Part of our strategy will be targeting key areas of Future’s enthusiast audience, with over 80 magazines across a range of subjects, and more than 27 million unique users a month visiting our websites. Events are becoming an increasingly important part of our business, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors alongside our core print and online offerings.  We are delighted to add the London Music Show to our portfolio, and we look forward to bringing our expertise to this event.”

Paul McManus, Chief Executive of the MIA said: “There are 15 million people in the UK who would like to start playing an instrument, or return to playing one. That is more than actually DO play! We needed a partner who could help us to reach these people and give our industry a show that would truly increase the size of our market place. Our show needed to stop “preaching to the converted” and instead, to offer an event that inspires everyone to want to start making music. Future are, without doubt, the people to help us realise this vision and we are very proud to have them as our partner”.
