Helenor Gilmour appointed first lady Chairman of PPA Scotland

Helenor Gilmour of D.C. Thomson & Co has taken office as the first lady Chairman of PPA Scotland.

Helenor Gilmour (pictured), Head of Consumer Insight and Brand Development at the Dundee publisher, was ratified at the meeting of the association in Edinburgh on March 17. She replaces Fraser Allen of White Light Media.

Hamish Miller, Publisher at Holyrood Communications, was appointed to the position of Vice-Chairman, replacing Steve Craven of Craven Publishing.

Kathy Crawford, PPA Scotland Business Manager, said: “In Helenor and Hamish we have two very strong and able office-bearers who will continue to drive PPA Scotland forward. I’m excited to be working with them in their new capacity.

My thanks go to Fraser Allen and Steve Craven, whose enthusiastic and practical assistance has been fantastic in supporting the running of the organisation.”

Gilmour joined DC Thomson in 1988 after holding marketing positions in the retail and service sectors. Having created a marketing division encompassing ad marketing, direct marketing and a consumer research facility, she now advises the D.C. Thomson Board and the wider DCT group, including Parragon Books, Puzzler Media and BrightSolid.

Hamish Miller has been involved in consumer and trade magazine publishing in Scotland, the UK and further afield for more than 25 years. His media career began at The Scotsman where he worked on the launch of the Scotsman Magazine. He also worked on the launch of Today newspaper, moved to The Independent Magazine and then became Marketing Director of Thomson Press’ Far East magazine division in Hong Kong.

As well as being joint founder and shareholder of Richard Ingram’s The Oldie magazine, in 1999 Miller launched Holyrood magazine, which has become Scotland’s leading current affairs and policy journal.
