Great Big Story says the series begins with powerlifter Karenjeet Kaur Bains - the first British Sikh woman to represent her country at both the European and World Championships.
Born in Warwickshire to Sikh parents, Bains started her sporting life as a champion track and field athlete. Aged 17, she began lifting weights to increase her speed on the track, but found a love for the discipline and focused her attention on that. Within 6 months she’d won her first British Champion title.
Bains leads a double life. By day, she’s a chartered accountant. Never shy of a challenge, Bains dedicated 5 years in the city grinding to get her qualifications. By night, she transforms into superwoman, deadlifting 175 kg in her home gym. She’s earned a world record for the most body weight squats completed in a minute by any man or woman, added the publisher. Karenjeet’s success is not only a result of her intense training; it’s also fuelled by her lifestyle and mindset:
Karenjeet: “I think for me, the limit does not exist, that's the mindset I've been brought up with…we've only got one life and you’ve got to make the most of it. I want to just keep pushing myself, see how far I can go.”
Annabel Fraser, the director of the series at Great Big Story said: “Karenjeet is the embodiment of a limit seeker and has worked so hard to become a champion in her field. Her success is not just her own, but her whole family’s. Karenjeet’s father in particular has been with her every rep of the way, as a dad, a coach and even the architect of her home gym. Karanjeet is a role model for all women who want to push their limits and achieve incredible things, and we hope more women and South Asian women are encouraged to follow in her footsteps.”
Huel (Human + Fuel) says it launched in 2015 with a mission: ‘to make nutritionally complete, convenient, affordable food, with minimal impact on animals and the environment.’ Huel's approach to plant-based nutrition has seen the company build a strong community, with over 350 million meals sold and millions of Hueligans worldwide. Huel is also a B Corp – making it part of a global movement focused on making a positive impact for people and the planet.
Speaking about the partnership, Huel founder Julian Hearn said: “We believe that with the right nutrition anything is possible. These videos produced in partnership with the team at Great Big Story will show how the product fits into the lives of those that use it and allows them to push boundaries and seek their limits.”
The film featuring Bains was released on 25th January, and can be viewed here. The two subsequent films will follow in the coming months.
