IET launches new journal

The Institution of Engineering and Technology, one of the world’s leading professional societies for the engineering and technology community, announces the launch of its latest journal, IET Biometrics.

Joining the IET’s extensive portfolio of research journals, IET Biometrics explores developments in the growing field of biometric recognition and technology, enhancing the breadth of information available to the research community. Its broad scope will make it a valuable reference for both industry and academia.

Professor Michael Fairhurst, an expert in biometrics at the University of Kent and Editor-in-Chief of IET Biometrics said: “This new journal aims to bring together all the diverse strands of research in biometrics, providing a single focus for stakeholders in this area to share their knowledge and keep up to date with cutting edge developments.  In this way we hope it will be a catalyst for promoting collaborations, and in a small but significant way to bridge the gap between what happens in the laboratory and what is required to turn good ideas into practical systems.   IET Biometrics should be considered a major journal devoted to reporting and promoting all aspects of biometrics, and capturing the full richness and diversity of the field.”

Daniel Smith, IET Head of Academic Publishing said: “With the IET’s focus including coverage of ‘security in the modern world’, it is extremely timely to be launching a new journal in the field of biometrics.  IET Biometrics brings together both fundamental research and application-led work of high quality, to ensure its value to the biometrics community at large, including government agencies, academic researchers, and relevant commercial organisations with interests in the field.”

The first two issues of IET Biometrics will be available free of charge on the IET’s Digital Library.
