Rhotic Media says the training seminars will be delivered at Thurstable School in Essex and have been arranged by the Foundation to take place over four weeks in May 2024.
Rhotic’s partnership with the Foundation reflects both organisations’ shared interest in social impact and contributing to the communities in which they are based, added the agency. Rhotic Media became the official sleeve sponsorship of Colchester United Football Club in 2023 for the EFL Trophy and Carabao Cup campaigns.
The Foundation aims to harness the power of sport to make a positive change within the local community by delivering participation, education, health and inclusion programmes. It currently provides 5,000 per week to 9,000 people.
As part of the training programme, Rhotic says its employees will host seminars offering advice on careers in journalism, media training, and marketing. The agency will also deliver a finance-based skills class, to educate young people on financial products such as mortgages, credit, and savings.
Joe McGrath, founder and CEO of Rhotic Media, said: “As a social impact-led agency, we have been proud of our work to date in helping young people get into journalism and financial marketing. We have always said that as our business grows, we will try to do more.
“Our sponsorship of Colchester United FC gave us further visibility across Essex and offered us the opportunity to do more with the local community. We cannot wait to meet the journalists and marketers of tomorrow and offer pointers on how to get into our industry.”
Rick Goldsbrough, chief operating officer at Colchester United Community Foundation, said: “We’d like to thank the team at Rhotic Media for their support in providing enrichment opportunities to our students on our Football College Programme in partnership with Thrustable School in Tiptree.
“This is a great opportunity for our students to be exposed to an area of industry within journalism and marketing that can be linked with so many job pathways, through hearing from experts in this field. We hope these enrichment experiences will empower our students to discover opportunities available to them post education, or in further education in an industry of their choice.”
This latest partnership follows several other social mobility initiatives by Rhotic Media. The agency says it already encourages diverse junior talent into journalism and financial marketing through school and college outreach initiatives, paid internships, paid work experience, degree apprenticeships and returner programmes. Earlier this year, the agency says it won the UK Social Mobility Award for ‘Best Start Up’.
