As the only remaining Essex club in the English Football League (EFL), “Col U” will carry the flag for the county, where Rhotic Media says it was founded, in the forthcoming season.

Under the terms of the deal, Rhotic Media will become a shirt sponsor for all games in the EFL Carabao Cup and the EFL Trophy, added the company. The first match is at Cardiff City on 9 August 2023.

Rhotic says it also has a broadcaster-facing sponsorship position at the JobServe Community Stadium for every football league game in the current season and advertising in the club programme for each home match.

Joe McGrath, founder of Rhotic Media, explained that Colchester United FC was an obvious choice for the company, given many of the company’s insurance and investment clients have a large presence in the city.

“Colchester United FC is a beacon in a city where several of our clients are based. The club does a huge amount of work in the local community, which is very much in keeping with Rhotic’s own social impact agenda.

“Rhotic was founded in Essex just over five years ago. The Essex business community have been so supportive in our formative years, so it’s a real treat to have the opportunity to network together around our shared love of football, this season.”

In addition to the Carabao Cup, Colchester United will play Cambridge United and Peterborough United in this season’s EFL Trophy – along with Tottenham Hotspur’s U21s team.

EFL Clubs, such as Colchester, play two of their three matches at home during the group stages, while Tottenham Hotspur will play away from home in all three fixtures. The first game is scheduled to take place on the week of the 4 September 2023.
