Emmerich’s repertoire features some of the greatest blockbusters of all time including: Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow, Stargate and Universal Soldier.
Emmerich’s role as guest editor ties in with the release of the follow-up Independence Day film Independence Day: Resurgence which is out 23rd June in the UK.
Roland Emmerich commented: "As a long-time friend of Empire and regular visitor to the website, I'm hugely excited about taking over the reins as Editor. If I ever get bored of filmmaking, it could be a second career!"
Editor-in-Chief (Digital) James Dyer says: “In a month where he revisits one of the most spectacular films of his career, it’s incredibly exciting that Roland Emmerich has agreed to guest edit Empire Online. We’re working closely with Roland to create a whole week of brilliant content that will not only explore his own films and major influences but also showcase a wealth of never-before-seen images from his personal archive."
Editor-in-Chief of Empire Terri White says: "Empire has pulled off lots of exciting firsts in its 27-year history – Spielberg guest-editing the mag, producing a breathing cover and most recently creating six incredible 3D lenticular covers for Star Wars: The Force Awakens - and this is just another: our first ever guest edit of the website. And who better to slide into the hot seat than the man behind the most exciting blockbuster of the summer.”
Previous guest editors of Empire magazine have included Lord of the Rings Director Peter Jackson who took the reins in November 2014 to celebrate the culmination of his Hobbit trilogy. Emmerich will guest edit Empire Online from 13th - 17th June. The magazine, which features Independence Day: Resurgence star Jeff Goldblum on the cover, is on sale 26th May.
