Building on the recent success of Empire’s pop-up office and event space at the Star Wars Celebration convention in London’s ExCel, which reached audiences of 400,000, members of the Empire team will decamp to San Diego for five days to create bespoke content for its print, digital and broadcast platforms.
The continuous stream of programming and content generation from the movie industry’s premier consumer event will cement Empire as the go-to destination for movie news and insider opinion, says Bauer Media.
The eight-person team, including creative director Chris Lupton and associate editors Nick de Semlyen and Chris Hewitt, will be attending the event to create content in conjunction with the editorial team back in the UK. This will include interviews and photoshoots with actors and filmmakers from the biggest upcoming movies and TV shows, exclusive news stories, a special Comic-Con podcast and Facebook Live chats with the stars. They will also be live tweeting all the biggest reveals as they happen.
A 20-page Comic Con special will appear in the September issue of Empire, on sale on 10 August, including talent photoshoots and interviews alongside exclusive studio imagery.
Empire’s Editor-in-chief Terri White commented: “Empire, the world’s biggest movie magazine, at Comic-Con, the biggest event in the entertainment world’s calendar — this is going to knock your socks off. Last year we saw huge reveals for Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel and Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them and we’re all waiting in feverish anticipation to see what’s planned for this year. Whatever happens, you can be sure Empire will be the best place to hear about it.”
