Fashion graduates ‘takeover’ Company

Company is turning its October issue into a graduate ‘takeover’.

The initiative will see eight aspiring fashion journalists become involved in all aspects of the magazine from conducting the cover interview and coming up with feature ideas, to designing the pages and styling the big fashion trend report.

The competition, the first ever to allow fashion students a say into what goes into their favourite magazine, was launched back in March. Company teamed up with Graduate Fashion Week and worked with fashion colleges and universities across the UK to promote the competition and attract the highest calibre of applicants. There was also a ‘call-out’ on www.Company.co.uk asking fashion students to create an A/W12 mood board using the title ‘What A/W12 means to me’.

Post receiving hundreds of entries, Company invited 20 applicants to attend a brainstorming session (pictured) held recently at Graduate Fashion Week.

The final eight include students from the London College of Fashion,Manchester Metropolitan and Leeds College of Art.

A hashtag has been created to support the campaign, #companygrads. Together with their respective colleges, the graduates will be using social media to reveal all about their time with the Company team and will be blogging daily from www.Company.co.uk and tweeting @companymagazine.

“Company has always supported students, but this initiative goes the extra mile and truly gives something back,” said Victoria White, Editor of Company. “Our takeover offers graduates an opportunity of a lifetime - to be involved in the creative planning and execution of their monthly must-read at the same time as showcasing their talent to hundreds of thousands of readers. We’re really looking forward to bringing yet another innovative edition of Company to the newsstand and making this issue a real event.”

The graduate takeover follows Company’s previous groundbreaking initiatives, which have seen the magazine guest-edited by the cast of skins, real-life readers modelling throughout the fashion and beauty pages and the first ever issue to be edited entirely by Bloggers. The cover star of the forthcoming August issue was also chosen exclusively by the ‘Company Collective’. This is a closed Facebook group made up of Company readers, who the editorial team constantly engages with to gauge their feedback on anything from design, to feature ideas, to potential cover stars.

The October issue of Company is on sale 8th September.
