Metro says its Reddit account has achieved a rise since joining the platform in January, with 80 million post views and over 100,000 post karma – a measure of how many upvotes, downvotes and comments a user receives.
The newsbrand says its content reach on the platform, particularly on topics including entertainment, UK news and gaming, has seen growth since their revamped approach in June.
Metro refined their posting strategy and built relationships with moderators as well as Reddit’s internal team to establish the brand’s presence on the platform, added the publisher.
Kate Rice, Metro senior social media journalist, said: “A major priority for us was building our karma and attracting quality engagement with the platform’s users.
“Alongside popular spaces, we’ve been interacting with smaller communities to share an in-depth look at our original and exclusive content.”
The team says it has focused on engaging with Reddit’s predominantly younger user base – sharing article links for users to click and hosting Ask Me Anything (AMA) sessions with subject experts to foster community interaction.
One such AMA session was hosted by entertainment journalist Josie Copson, who gave the audience an exclusive behind-the-scenes glimpse into the National Television Awards.
“AMAs are a great way of connecting with our readers in a friendly and creative way, showing how our reporters do what they do best” Metro growth editor, Anushka Suharu said.
