Munroe Bergdorf: “To me, fashion is a reminder of what possibilities may lay ahead for us, especially those of us of marginalised experiences.”

British Vogue has announced that Munroe Bergdorf will join the title as a contributing editor. The model and activist most recently appeared on the cover of the magazine’s August issue celebrating LGBTQ+ stars, says the publisher.

For her first piece, Bergdorf writes about the importance of fashion to societal evolution, as well as its place in her own personal journey: “To me, fashion is a reminder of what possibilities may lay ahead for us, especially those of us of marginalised experiences. One of the only industries consisting largely of women and gay men in decision making roles, fashion can help us make sense of our feelings, to express ourselves in a way that surpasses the limitations of human language, to stand in solidarity with those facing injustice, to collectively mourn in the wake of a global crisis, to celebrate the hope of a world beyond the limitations and prejudices of our own.”

The publisher added, with an existing audience of over a half a million on social media, Bergdorf will use her new role at British Vogue to continue her work amplifying marginalised voices, offering insight and instruction on feminism, diversity and LGBTQ+ topics.
