Locations will include national and regional travel hubs and festival hot-spots.
As festival season gets underway, one-off distribution locations have been added around 10 UK festivals - including Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds – which more than two million fans are anticipated to descend upon over the summer. Over 240 distributors will be handing out copies at the most popular travel points for each festival, as well as at festival hot-spots, say the publishers.
Paul Cheal, group managing director of Time Inc. UK’s Innovation Group, says: “NME’s intelligent distribution strategy is agile and responsive to audience trends. Launching one-off distribution points is an important part of that strategy and it makes sense for us to have a presence at large scale events targeting the same audience. The active hand-to-hand distribution optimises the opportunity to put the product directly into the hands of our audience and our festival distribution at travel hubs around Radio 1’s Big Weekend delivered solid results with 10,000 copies distributed.”
NME’s nationwide distribution footprint sees copies of NME available each week at over 100 Tube stations and 21 regional train stations. Retail partners Topman, HMV, Dr Martens and Richer Sounds also stock copies in selected stores, alongside 90 independent record stores, over 20 music venues and select urban convenience stores in areas with a high density millennial population. During term-time NME is available at over 40 universities, with copies mainly distributed via hand-to-hand activity by students acting as Brand Ambassadors.
