Following an assessment of the Group’s perfect binding requirements and a detailed technical appraisal of the available options, Wyndeham has ordered a Muller Martini Corona C18 perfect binder which will be operational in June 2010.
Paul Utting, Chief Executive, Wyndeham Group, said: “The decision to invest in a new perfect binding line is very positive news for our employees and our magazine publishing and commercial customers. Our web offset businesses have benefitted from substantial capital investment in recent years and this latest expenditure will ensure the Group remains at the vanguard of technology across the UK web offset sector.”
The Muller Martini C18 is a state-of-the-art, high-speed perfect binding line capable of binding up to 18,000 A4 publications per hour. The binder is fitted with 2-shot hotmelt binding and twin nipping stations for increased binding strength, and 15 stations plus cover feeder with full signature and cover recognition.
The C18 enables the fast and efficient production of a wide range of value added products which can be applied to publications in-line. These include six static nailing positions for inserts and bound in cards, a CD-rom and card glue feeder, a 6-station loose inserting machine, plus in-line shrink wrapping and palletisation.
The new Corona adds to the comprehensive finishing capability across Wyndeham’s Web Division, which now consists of 14 high speed perfect binding and saddle stitching lines. The investment also includes a full refurbishment of the existing Muller Martini equipment at Southernprint, Southern Binders and Heron, which will ensure that all of Wyndeham’s bindery equipment continues to operate at optimum output levels, says the company.
Andreas Schillinger, Managing Director, Muller Martini UK said: "We are all extremely proud that the Wyndeham Group has once again demonstrated their trust in our technology and our company. It has been great working on this project with such a professional group of experts on every level and we are sure that Wyndeham and Muller Martini together will achieve the very best productivity possible with this new installation."
