Daryl Rayner: “As librarians increasingly opt for long-term resources, we’re delighted that Sight & Sound have joined the roster of magazines who are offering a Perpetual Access option.”

Libraries around the world can purchase Perpetual Access licences to the complete archive of Sight & Sound, the monthly film magazine published by the British Film Institute, stretching back to 1932. Perpetual Access licences are purchased through the Exact Editions platform for a one-time fee and guarantee a library access to the archive and upcoming issues from the title in perpetuity, backed up by not-for-profit preservation archive Portico.

Sight & Sound is an international film magazine that offers insight into film culture past, present and future through covering a broad range of work in its features, interviews and comprehensive reviews section, added Exact Editions. Digital subscriptions and licences also include access to long-running sister publication Monthly Film Bulletin (1934-1991), making it a journal of record of the films released in UK cinemas across the decades.

Perpetual Access licences to Sight & Sound will be available alongside annual subscriptions, and provide an alternative for libraries who wish to guarantee the long-term availability of the resource to future researchers. Exact Editions says it maintains the license for the library by charging a maintenance fee of 2.5% for support and traffic.

Editor of Sight & Sound, Mike Williams, commented: “We’re pleased to be offering this alternative option to libraries who want to commit to long-term access. The complete archive is a fascinating resource that will certainly be useful in film studies for generations to come.”

Managing Director of Exact Editions, Daryl Rayner, said: “As librarians increasingly opt for long-term resources, we’re delighted that Sight & Sound have joined the roster of magazines who are offering a Perpetual Access option. Exact Editions has a unique and valuable expertise in building and maintaining archives and is committed to offering librarians the very best service as providers of digital editions.

Subscriptions to Sight & Sound are available in the Exact Editions institutional shop here.
