CIM appoints new Chief Executive

The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), the world’s largest professional body for marketing, has announced the appointment of its new Chief Executive.

Following an open recruitment process, Anne Godfrey (pictured), currently Chief Executive of The Guild of Travel Management Companies (GTMC), will join the Institute during the summer. She has previously held similar leadership roles at both the Law Society and the CBI, along with a number of marketing and sales positions for professional publishing companies.

James Sutton, who has carried out the role of Acting Chief Executive at CIM during the past seven months - will continue in this post until Anne’s arrival, before returning to his previously held position of Director of Strategic Development.

Commenting on Anne’s appointment, Andrew Harvey, Chair of the CIM said; “We are delighted that Anne will be joining us as Chief Executive. She has a strong record of working within professional organisations and brings a wealth of experience in membership bodies and beyond. She has a great understanding of marketing, so is ideally placed to lead us as we continue our growth in what is our 101st year in representing and supporting the marketing profession.”

Also thanking James Sutton for his contributions as Acting Chief Executive, Andrew Harvey said: “James has been integral during his time as Acting Chief Executive over the past seven months, helping to ensure that CIM continues its reputation as the leading international professional marketing and sales body worldwide, in what has been a significant period of change. We are grateful for the leadership he has provided and The Board is delighted that he will remain a key member of our Directorate.”

Speaking on her new role, Anne said; “I am very much looking forward to joining the CIM and working with Andrew, the Board and the staff to drive forward CIM’s strategy. It’s a fantastic brand, with an international presence, something which is still a rarity for membership bodies.”

Anne’s appointment was made by CIM’s Board of Trustees, its governance body made up of 13 members from around the globe.
