Millican makes her debut in the new issue, on sale Tuesday 12 June, and will appear every week writing her “View from the sofa” column, providing her unique comic take on television – starting with her musings on watching telly with Twitter.
Millican admits she’s a fan of watching comedy on TV: “I’m currently enjoying Cardinal Burns on E4 and Live at the Electric on BBC3.”
Other regular columnists in the magazine include Radio 4 broadcaster Eddie Mair, film critic Barry Norman, writer and broadcaster Andrew Collins, the Guardian’s Tim Dowling and sports legend Stuart Hall OBE.
Radio Times editor Ben Preston says that Millican strikes a chord with Radio Times’ readers: “Sarah is that rare thing, a comedian who is genuinely warm and optimistic about life, wonderfully funny and a gifted writer. And she knows - and loves - her telly too”.
Preston also predicts an uplift in sales for Radio Times’ recent Jubilee Souvenir issue, which sported an exclusive portrait of Her Majesty by legendary artist Sir Peter Blake: “Our vintage Jubilee issue looks to have put on more than 30,000 sales which shows how our readers turn to Radio Times for national events.”
At the last ABC, Radio Times had a weekly circulation of 925,373, with subscriptions up 12.0% year on year to a record 213,129.
