Time Out announces winner of inaugural award
Joe Mackertich: “The Time Out London team were in total agreement of who should be the deserved recipient.”

Time Out says it’s the first time that they have awarded the title and, as Joe Mackertich, Time Out London’s editor, explains, the Time Out London team were in total agreement of who should be the deserved recipient of it; “We put our heads together and came up with a shortlist of a dozen names but in the end the decision was unanimous. Chloe Kelly won England the Euros. She scored the winning goal in extra-time. And she did it with the swagger and attitude of a born-and-bred Londoner. To photograph her for our Time Out London feature, surrounded by dozens of grass-roots female football players, all of whom idolise her, was an absolute privilege. This year the Lionesses changed the public's perception of women's football forever. And we are delighted that it was a Londoner leading the charge”.

The 24 year old from Ealing scored the winning goal in this summer’s Euros Final and made her ‘The new Patron Saint of Sports Bras’ and she admits in her interview - to mark her being named Londoner of the Year - that she is “getting the sports bra ..framed”.

Chloe began her journey on Southall’s Windmill Park Estate. She played her first game for Queen’s Park Rangers who she was raised as an avid supporter of and with whom she took her first steps towards turning professional as a childhood member of its Academy before playing for Middlesex and then moving to Arsenal. Despite now being at Manchester City, Chloe explains that she is still a Londoner through and through; “I always remember where I come from. London’s my roots. Even though I’ve been up north for so long, it’s always home”.
