Hearst appoints Ally Oliver as Editor of Asda’s customer magazine

Hearst Magazines UK has appointed Ally Oliver as Editor of Asda’s customer magazine, which is distributed to over 1.9m readers.

Ally has over 25 years’ media experience and is currently a freelance editorial consultant, journalist, PR and author. Her client work has included brand refreshes and new product developments for M&S.com, Bauer Media and Hello!, and she regularly writes for newspapers, magazines and websites.

Prior to this, Ally was Development Editor of Hello! Fashion Monthly. Before Hello! she worked as Assistant Editor of Closer and Launch Editor on both Closerdiets.com and Closeronline.co.uk. Ally has also held senior editorial positions on titles including New Woman, J17, Bliss and Inside Soap.

Ally will join the Asda team on 11 January and report to Hearst’s Commercial Content Director, Victoria White.

Ally says: “Customer publishing is a real hub for innovation in the current marketplace and I am excited to start working with Hearst to develop its commercial publishing arm. Asda is a dynamic company that is open to working with the great creative team Hearst has in place, and I can’t wait to get started working with the rest of the team to bring the Asda brand to life.”

Anna Jones, CEO of Hearst Magazines UK, says: “Ally has a proven track record in developing and editing big magazine brands. She is the ideal appointment to develop engaging, informed and fun content for the Asda customer base. Asda is an important client for us, and we look forward to announcing further details about the Asda proposition in the New Year.”

Hearst Magazines UK won the content account for supermarket retailer Asda in May this year. The long-term strategic partnership will see Hearst draw upon its wealth of consumer insight, digital know-how and strategic expertise to produce bespoke content for Asda, says Hearst.
