Mollie Makes partners with Anova for book series

Mollie Makes – the contemporary handmade magazine from Future Publishing – is to partner with independent publisher Anova Books to create a series of Mollie Makes-branded craft books.

The first title, Mollie Makes Christmas will be published in October 2012, hitting the peak of the pre-Christmas crafting season. Mollie Makes Flowers & Birds will follow in the spring and both books will be priced at £9.99.

According to Future, Mollie Makes, launched in May 2011, has revolutionised the handmade magazine sector, and already has over 50% of the market share. Mollie is a craft magazine with a difference and has tapped into a strong and growing trend for contemporary handmade craft, appealing to a younger generation of crafters, with many of its readers under 35.

Since launch, Mollie Makes has broken Future’s own record for new subscriptions, and early editions of the magazine sell for over £35 each on eBay. Mollie Makes was also recently rewarded with a nomination for ‘Specialist Consumer Magazine of the Year’ at the PPA Awards, and is shortlisted for a 2012 Media Pioneer Award. Mollie Makes has also had great international success. It is currently the number one sewing title by retail sales value (RSV) in Barnes & Noble US. In the corporate rankings it delivers more RSV than Elle UK, Q Magazine or Lonely Planet, say the publishers.

The partnership with Anova Books, under the imprint of Collins & Brown – will be the first brand extension for Mollie Makes, working with an established publisher of craft books to bring the Mollie Makes brand to the international crafting book market.

Kerry Lawrence, Group Publisher for Mollie Makes says: “We’re delighted to be working with Anova Books on the Mollie Makes series of books. After a phenomenal first year at newsstand we’re taking some exciting steps towards extending the Mollie Makes brand to a wider audience. With their expertise in producing high quality craft books, Anova Books are the perfect publishing partner for Mollie Makes.”

Katie Cowan, Publisher at Collins & Brown adds: “The launch of Mollie Makes was one of the most exciting craft events of last year. We are absolutely thrilled to be working with Editor Jane Toft and her team at Future on what will be a beautiful range of books celebrating the very best in contemporary craft from around the world. As a publishing partner, we hold true to the ideals of the magazine in celebrating craft as part of life and a passion for the handmade.”

The first Mollie Makes book Mollie Makes Christmas will go on sale in October, priced at £9.99.
